Swallowing disorders of neurogenic etiology have come to constitute a firm and well-established topic in speech-language pathology. A relatively young branch which is closely linked to advances in intensive care medicine deals with the phenomenon of dysphagia following long-term intubation. This represents a novel subject area for speech and language pathologists who, during their education, recieve no or merely insufficient training to this effect.In her tenure at the Helios Clinic Hagen Ambrock the speech and language pathologist Franziska Menzel responds within her daily practice to the particular challenges the clientele poses. These experiences originated the objective of increasing theoretical and practical training on this young branch at the department „Language and Communication“.
